The Haendel Legend
The Inspiration...
For a young artist like Gábor Birta it is an extremely great decision to make a solo night just by himself. It is not a traditional concert program but a kind of a production which has been inspired by the innermost and deepest feelings. The basic point of course was Haendel's music. It is quite natural, as it is Haendel's Xerxes (Arsamenes) whom Gábor is indebted to for his resounding success on stage of the Hungarian State Opera House.
Having given numerous successful concerts he astonished his audience with an amazingly new production: an aria evening with prose following Haendel's life. It would be difficult to define its genre, as it was built on the fine balance of music and prose. The dramatic anecdotes - told by Gábor Birta and Szabolcs Sándor - and the arias glint the devotion of the era, however present the baroque music in a youthful and delightful atmosphere. Worth to know: with much humour and bravour.
A close experience for any age group!
...and The Legend
George Frideric Haendel, the profane daredevil of the baroque life made crowds of generations his admirers with the variety of his oeuvre and with his rich personality. He was a born German but is considered a national composer of the British. With his powerful personality he had a great impact on the musicians lived after his era like Mozart, Beethoven or Rossini.
The Haendel Legend introduces Haendel's startling, amusing, enchanting and bohemian personality telling the most interesting anecdotes following his life from his parental home to his declining years. The story of his meetings, journeys, love-fights and quarrels with his colleagues can be connected to 12 Haendel-arias which are very rarely performed besides the well-known melodies.
For those, who feel the desire to see a most peculiar performance here is Gábor Birta the countertenor singing arias and reciting prose which is a unique enterprise ever by a countertenor artist.
Having attracted an audience in full house with his premiere in Stuttgart (Germany) it starts a solo career back in Hungary at last...
'THE HAENDEL LEGEND' IS ENTERTAINING, TOUCHING, DIGNIFIED...
EXTREMELY BAROQUE.
